WSU baseball opened a three-game series with cross-state rival Washington Friday night in Seattle. It was a dreary evening on Montlake and for Cougar fans it was equally gray. The Cougs fell to the Huskies 3-2 despite a couple of blasts off the Wazzu bats in the ninth inning. Elijah Hainline got a hold of a fastball that appeared to be the tying run only to be caught in left-center off the top of the wall. Warning track power won't win games at home or on the road.
Grant Taylor went five and a third innings and was tagged with the loss. Taylor deserved better as he limited UW to three earned runs on eight hits, while striking out five. His teammates were limited to just four hits including a solo homer by Kyle Russell in the eighth to close the score to 3-2.
The Cougs will get a chance to even the series tonight with the first pitch scheduled for 5:05pm. You can watch the game on Pac-12 Washington.
