Cougar football has a tough assignment this week, defeat Oregon State on their home turf. Backing up just how challenging this game will be for Wazzu, here's a post from CougCenter:
"With both teams coming in with equal overall and conference records, DraftKings has determined the Beavers to be the favorite, giving them a three-and-a-half point edge over the Cougars at home. The total points is set at over/under 53 and the Cougars are +135 on the money line to win the game outright. A $100 bet wins $135 if the Cougars extend their winning streak over the Beavers."
Here's a few observations about Cougar football by Colton Clark, Spokesman-Review:
The WSU defense has picked off five passes and recovered two of five forced fumbles this year. The Cougars are tied for ninth in the Pac-12 and 74th nationally in turnovers gained.
Last year, Washington State’s defense distinguished itself for forcing turnovers. The Cougars totaled 29 takeaways, finishing tied for fifth in the nation in that category.
In other words, “We need to get back to taking the ball away,” Cougars coach Jake Dickert said Monday.
The Cougs haven't managed a takeaway in either of their last two games.
Two Beavers quarterbacks have combined for a conference-high 10 interceptions. That appears to be an opportunity for Wazzu's Speed D.
“People have been stopping them a little bit with takeaways,” Dickert said. “That’s the one thing they have been doing this year that is uncharacteristic of them in big games.”
The Beavers lean on their ground game and run for 181 yards per game – good for fourth in the Pac-12 and 44th nationally.
The Cougars’ rushing defense ranks 26th in the nation at 110.5 yards per game. Although they have shown cracks against stout rushing teams – Wisconsin, Oregon, and USC recorded about 180 rushing yards apiece – the Cougars appear to have made significant improvements from last season in their ability to contain potent rushing attacks. Last year, WSU gave up 200 or more rushing yards in five games. The Beavers piled up 309 yards and three touchdowns on 45 carries in the Cougars’ 31-24 win in Pullman in 2021.
The questionable targeting call made on Grant Stephens in the SC game has caught the eye of the national sports platform, Outkick. Here's the link:

The Washington State men's golf team posted a second-place finish at the 2022 Oregon State Invitational to give WSU its second top-two finish of the fall. The Cougars ended the two-day tournament by carding 11-over; 863 as a team.
"They played really solid and didn't make any big numbers." said Head Coach Dustin White. "They capitalized on some really good shots and it was really fun to watch."
Junior Jaden Cantafio led the way for Washington State, as he finished in a tie for ninth. Cantafio jumped three spots on the player leaderboard in Tuesday's final round after he carded even par; 71 to finish the tournament at 1-over; 214. Cantafio also tied for the tournament lead with 42 pars. It is Cantafio's second top-10 finish of the fall, as he was one of four WSU golfers to finish inside the top-30 on the player leaderboard at the 2022 Oregon State Invitational.
